About Rochie's Friendship Network

B"H Sunday 12 Sivan June 15

Rochie is a 26-year old mother currently in critical condition. On Wednesday, Isru Chag shavuot (June 11) she failed to wake up in the morning, and shortly thereafter went into cardiac arrest. She was revived and is now in a coma and on life support, and although her heart is thank G-d beating, the doctors say she needs a miracle. We do not know what caused this, as she was perfectly healthy with no previous medical problems. Her husband, 11-month-old-child, parents, brothers and sisters, and her many, many friends all over the world are all praying for her to be restored to us. The doctors and hospital staff are doing their part, but she desperately needs our prayers and good deeds to aid her recovery.

Rochie's family and friends have created this blog as a place to log our efforts on her behalf. Please join us!

If there is one thing that characterizes Rochie it is her devotion and caring as a friend. We therefore felt that the most appropriate way to aid her recovery is by increasing our own commitment to helping others and being a true friend to someone who needs us to be there for them. Do you know anyone who needs a hand at home, someone who needs a shidduch, a loan, an encouraging word or two? Do it today instead of tomorrow in Rochie's merit!

Please use the comment section of this post to post the things you will and have done in Rochie's merit, and to view the ideas suggested by others.

I have been so worked up sad and depressed about this unexplainable situation that it has been hard for me to function.

Now that the family has setup up this blog I am feeling more positive and more tachlisdik.

I have been planning an end of the year banquet/farbrengen for the students in my school around 150 girls. Now that the last details need to be put into place I felt like I just don't care and however the program turns out is good enough.

But when I think of Rochie and how she always does things all the way- thinking and planning every last detail-that is how I will prepare for this program.

I will make sure all of the girls are involved and that they all walk away taking upon themselves hachlotos to keep up their ruchnios and mitzvos over the summer!

I will also stress to the girls the importance of Ahvas Yisroel and the power of friendship-and help them come up with suggestions and scenarios of how they can really be a true friend (like Rochie) in the summer when they will all find themselves in different settings and in different situations!

I will iy"h post the suggestions and hachlotos that he girls will come up with.

I'll b"n be giving tzedakah and of course saying Tehillim for Rochie for her complete refuah, may it be immediately. Rochie, we're all looking forward to seeing your beautful and vibrant smile very soon.

Indeed of all of Rochie's known qualities, Ahavas Yisrael is the most outstanding. In fact I cannot recall an instance where she had something bad to say about anyone else! Bli neder in her merit i will be extra careful not to speak negative of another until she fully recovers. If it interests anyone to take a similar resolution (for one week perhaps), please tell us! Perhaps in the merit of this mitzvah she will be saved (as the possuk says "Life and death are in the 'hands' of the tongue"). but in any case, you'll be sure to have a more enjoyable -not to mention friendlier- week!

The family and friends are saying the whole Tehillim everyday, each person saying one Yom Tehillim. Anyone who would like to join and say a Yom Tehillim can visit yomtehillim.googlepages.com and choose a Yom to say everyday. May she have a Refuah Shleima NOW!

Especially as the Rambam cycle for the coming year starts today, I will take it upon myself:

1) Not to miss a single Rambam this coming year, even when overworked or traveling.

2) To make up the 5 days/15 prakim I know I missed last year by Motzoei Shabbos.

3) To really learn and remember, instead of just quickly reading and "blowing off" all prakim of Rambam as well as all Chitas which I learn from today onward.

Refuah sheleima - we should hear only good news!

Just to comment on the previous post, I have been thinking the past few days of organizing people to go to the Kings Brook nursing home, as practically EVERY SHABBOS, as an elementary and high school girl Rochie volunteered her Shabbos to go to THIS nursing home and to bring some joy and happiness to the patients, either through singing, feeding, smiling and wishing them a Good Shabbos or just plain old encouragement for the patients families. I have said tehillim in her merit.
The Alter of Novardhok once advised the relatives of a sick person to hire two bachurs to say Amen Yehei Shemei Rabba with complete kavannah to merit a complete recovery for their family member. Our Sages promise explicitly that this said with kavannah nullifies evil decrees. While this sounds entirely simplistic, it must be taken very seriously as these are the words of chazal.
The children who attend her shul should also be gathered and told to answer to the kaddish (with the encouragement of a little candy and an understanding of the prayer's importance) enthusiastically. This has proven to be tremendously helpful not only for the recovery of ill people but also for childless couples. For more information on the power of Amen, please refer to Esther Stern's book, "Just one word-Amen". May she merit refuah b'ruchnios and b'gashmius. AMEN!!!

Rochie has been a counselor at our camp Gan Israel in Dayton , Ohio a number of times. Rchie has made long lasting friendships with families here . Just ten days before Shavuos I called Rochie with last minutes notice asking her if she could do me a favor and take a woman from Dayton around Crown Heights for a few hours. Rochie agreed immediately and did it happily.
This Woman, Judy, had such a wonderful time with Rochie, and mentioned that she feels like she met a friend right away and gto to know her family in so short a time. This is who Rochie is, kind, compassionate, and ready to do anything to help someone.

In the merit of A speedy recovery, in addition to saying extra Tehillim daily, and daavening daily, I have made a hachlata, to visit members of our community who are recovering from illnesses. There's always excuses to push it off, and now I am commited to do it ona regular basis, and to also reconnect with people who moved from our community who need someone to talk to more often.

On Thursday night some of Rochies friends got together at the home of Chaya Blachman for a Fabrengen. They said Tehillim gave Tzedoka and made Lechaim for Rochie saying she should walk out of hospital now on her own two feet! The Fabrengen was lead by N D Shusterman who as always told many inspiring stories. One story she said was about a family in Boro Park who lost their mother. The famil took on between themselves to always find someone to say Amen to their Bracha. One day the 6 yr old came home from school and was thirsty. She poured herself a drink but there was noone to answer Amen so she waited. 2 hrs later someone came home she made the Bracha and gulped that drink down. That night her mother came to her in a dream. She told her "you cannot imagine the tumult you caused among the Malochim because you waited 2 hrs. Because of you another kid in your class who has Yene Machla will be completly cured." The girl woke up in fright and ran to tell her father. The next morning he called the teacher who told him indeed there actually was a kid in the class who had just found out she was sick. They called her father and told them the whole story. The child was just about to start chemo. The father told them to redo the testing and they found she was clear. The doctors were dumbfounded. We can see how special is the power of Amen to Hashem.

I have no doubt that this is why H-shem has restored me to my family, including my 9-month old baby. The wonderful women of Worcester who shook Heaven for me are likewise praying for Rochie. My children and I decided to carefully say "Asher Yatzar" from a chart or siddur, knowing the powerful connection between this bracha and health. In addition we will pray for her each day at bedtime, hoping that she too will very soon be putting her little one to bed in perfect health! Refuah Shleimah and Moshiach Now!

This is in response to Devorah Leah Mangel's post of June 23, to add a continuation of the story. I met Rochie about 5 years ago at a Machon Chana summer program. She helped me leearn, grow, bake and we became friends. I was so surprised that she kept in touch after we went home, me to California as I am closer to her mother's age than to hers. Needless to say, we have stayed close since. She called me one day so very excited, told me all about how her Shlucha friend in Ohio had asked her to take a woman around Crown Heights. She was amazed and in awe at the excitement the woman felt for being in Crown Heights, at 770, in the Rebbe's Library. But the real reason she was calling was because she thought of me, that this woman reminded her of me and that she thought we should be in touch and could develop a friendship. That is Rochie - always thinking of others, how she can spread the light of Yiddishkeit and Ahavas Yisrael. Rochie, I'm still waiting for her email address.

Rochie may you have your 3 Tammuz miracle immediately, with your complete recovery BH! This is not a hachlota but a personal story. I hope it gives family and friends some chizuck. 3 years ago 3 Tammuz, 1 of the most important people in my life during an operation went into cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped beating for 15 minuites, and then she was revived BH. The doctor's said it was not possible and couldn't explain it, a clear miracle. She was on life support in a critical condition. I went to the ohel and poured my heart out! The Rebbe MHM gave a big brocha for a refuah sheleima! I had asked my father in South Africa to have the mezuzas checked as soon as possible. As it turns out 1 of them was completely blank. After a few days she was off the life support and moved to High Care. Baruch Hashem all our tefillas were answered! The amazing thing is that the bill from the sofer came to 770 Rand. A clear 3 Tammuz miracle from the Rebbe!!!!! Rochie may the same miracle which we pray for everyday be yours now!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Hashem for your great kindness always!

Last week, a brachos party was held here locally, whereby women sampled from different foods and individually recited appropriate brachos with the purpose of maximizing the number of Amens responded. Rochie's name was mentioned at this party and several people endeavored to take on tehillim recitation for her recovery. We hope that future brachos parties will be held and in the merit of all the Amens said fervently, she will have a complete and immeidate yeshua. Amen.

B"H

To Rochie...

"Adon Olam Asher Molach"..Lord of the universe,

who reigned before anything was created....

A daughter is born , a mother is made.

Who is the mother ?

Who is the daughter?

was not once the mother a daughter?

do we not pray that a daughter become a mother?

indeed mother, daughter, grandchild are one!

....at times by g-d's choice this cycle takes a painful turn....sigh

yet the wheels of life is not broken.

a daughter's soul is taken to soon......returned to

"B'yado Afkid Ruchi"...into His Hand i entrust my "Rochie"....

however not before a mother was made of her.

heartbroken all we say ...

"B"es I'shan V'oera" when i sleep and when i awake..

in the heaven where she was taken

and when she awakens with moshiachs' call....

"Hashem Li V'lo Eira" Hashem is with me , i shall not fear..

for i know Rochie's presence is still very much here as she was, she is, and will always be,even more then before... very quietly here.
